The birthplace of J M Barrie is situated on Brechin Road in Kirriemuir. He was born here on May 9th 1860, the 9th child of a weaver. He would spend the first eight years of his life here. The house is a simple two storey construction now managed by the National Trust of Scotland. The ground floor has been much altered, but the upper has been restored. The house next door has been turned into a museum called The Genius of J M Barrie.

Personal Experience:
The house has been extensively restored upstairs, including his writing desk and cradle. The house next door at no.11 now houses the museum, and in the back garden is a statue of Peter Pan, and also the communal washhouse where his first play was performed when he was seven. A disabled stairlift has been fitted in the house. The house is open from April to June and September/October. Saturday to Wednesday 12pm to 5pm, Sunday 1pm to 5pm.
