A plaque inset on the teak deck of the Cutty Sark tell the tale of a crewmen killed in a brawl with another crewmwmber near the center of the ship.
The plaque reads as follows:
"Near this spot, able Seaman John Francis was struck with the capstan bar during a brawl by first mate Sidney Smith and died
11th August 1880"
