A plaque inset on the teak deck of the Cutty Sark tell the tales of two crewmen washed overboard and lost at sea near the center of the ship.
The plaque reads as follows:
"As Cutty Sark approached the English Channel returning from Australia, able Seaman John Clifton, age 21, and John Doyle, aged 30, were washed off the jib boom and lost.
2nd April 1893"
