On the west side of the Great Fire Monument, above a startling depiction of the horror of the Great Fire, the Coat of Arms of King Charles II, ruler of England Scotland, and Ireland is carved into the stone at the center of the pedestal.
A long recitation of the actions of King Charles II to support and advance the restoration and rebuilding of the City of London after the devastating fire of 1666 are inscribed on the south side of the Great Fire Monument. he took quick, strong action to alleviate suffering of the people, forgiving their taxes and making infrastructure and rebuilding grand buildings a priority.
