Built in 1842, the church is an exceptionally fine example of the implementation of Asher Benjamin's 1839 church design. The Orwell Congregational Church is a high style Greek Revival brick building with white painted wood and gray marble detailing. It contains a notable Hook tracker organ purchased by subscription to honor returning Civil War veterans. Since 1882 the church has housed the town clock. Although it is a religious property, the First Congregational Church derives its primary significance from its architectural importance.

Church and the town of Orrville is just off the RT22a and is in a very rural area. The church is well preserved considering its age.
