This elegant memorial plaque is dedicated to the memory of Sir Tom Spencer Vaughan Phillips, KCB, RN and the crews of the HMS REPULSE and HMS PRINCE OF WALES, all of whom died when their ships were sunk in the WWII Battle of the Malay Peninsula.
The plaque is affixed to the western wall of All Hallows by the Tower Church, near the Queen Mother Centre.
The plaque reads as follows:
"Oh valiant hearts
With pride in remembrance of
SIR TOM SPENCER VAUGHAN PHILLIPS, KCB, RN
Admiral of the Eastern Fleet
And all of his company who went down with him in HMS PRINCE OF WALES and HMS REPULSE at Singapore in the Battle of the Malay Peninsular
10th December 1941
This tablet is placed here by his wife and son in the Year of Victory 1945
Peace on you sailor and a soul at rest.
In your Green Mansion silent in the sea
The doors are opened, Truth has turned the key
And Justice enters – A belated guest."
