57L - Yellowstone Lake, WY - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

Very basic benchmark placed here by surveyors. The elevation reads 57 feet above mean sea level. The actual elevation above sea level is approximately 7,795. This benchmark refers to the elevation above Yellowstone Lake. I'm assuming they had a generic disc to work with and just stamped the elevation on. It's something a bit different so you might like it. It doesn't mention if it belongs to the USGS, Park Service, or some property owner. It's a nice find in the middle of nowhere, really. If you like out of the way benchmarks then this is for you. The benchmark is located in a wooded area not more than 50 feet from a road. If you're heading south on Grand Loop Road (HWY 20) turn east towards Lake Hotel which is on the North-West corner of Yellowstone Lake. It's the only easterly exit along Grand Loop Road in the vicinity of the benchmark coordinates. Keep heading east until you reach the large parking area on the south side of the road. It's a huge parking lot with a yellow hotel. Keep driving towards the coordinates as far as you can until you hit the edge of the parking lot or whichever space is open. From there it is a short walk through the woods without any elevation changes to worry about. The small patch of woods is surrounded by concrete and civilization so there's no backcountry bushwhacking.
