This station, a U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey standard bench mark disk, is located in downtown Chatham, NY. It is set vertically on the northwest face of a flatiron ('Clocktower') building positioned between Main Street (NY Rt. 66) to the northwest, and Railroad Avenue (NY Rt. 295) to the southeast, parallel with the railroad track. The mark is to the immediate left of a large doorway with sconce lamps.
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1933
AT CHATHAM.
ON BOSTON AND ALBANY RAILROAD, ON N FACE OF TELEPHONE BLDG., 140 YARDS
E OF STATION, 30 FEET S OF CENTER LINE OF MAIN ST., 4 FEET ABOVE
SIDEWALK.
BUILDING IS FLATIRON SHAPED BRICK AND TOPPED BY SQUARE TOWER HOUSING
VILLAGE CLOCK. IS NOW KNOWN AS 'CLOCK TOWER BUILDING'.
This mark is very easy to spot, and was recovered in good condition.
