This highway interchange may not be number one on most people’s list of “must-see” attractions in Mississauga. In fact, Mississauga may not be high on a lot of people’s list of vacation destinations. Nevertheless, this has to be one of the easiest philatelic scenes to see – you don’t even have to get out of your car! And apparently a lot of people have seen it since highway 401 (nicknamed “Ontario’s main street”) is the busiest highway in Canada (perhaps the busiest highway in all of North America!).
The stamp is one of four issued in conjunction with the XX World Road Congress held in Montreal, September 3-9, 1995. They depict various bridges throughout Canada, both old and new, famous and ordinary. The “bridge” on this particular stamp is the ramp connecting east-bound 401 with north-bound 410 in Mississauga.
In order to see the scene on the stamp, stay in the local lanes of highway 401 east-bound through interchange 344.
