Iwade is a small village on the North Kent Coast and close to the Isle of Sheppy. Two bridgess connect Iwade to the Isle of Sheppy.
In 1798, the manor of Warde, was within the hundred of Teynham. It had sixteen houses, and about 60 or 70 inhabitants.
The main feature of the sign is the Church which is less than a quarter of a mile from the village sign. The river channel between Iwade and the Isle of Sheppy mentioned earlier is depicted by two Herons in the water and the two sheep and two cows represent the farming that surrounds this village.
The village sign is located on the green at junction of Sheppey Way and Sheerstone Road.
On the signpost is a (shiny) metal plate with engraving, which reads 'Ted Cornford donated this village sign in 2005, to the memory of his wife Jay Cornford 1924-2005'.
