The crew of miners who went underground on December 20, 2004 to drill and blast a tunnel which would connect the visitor gallery 650 feet underground to the main section of this salt mine had diagrams that showed a 50 foot thickness of salt which would need removal. After the blast, several more were required because of a calculation error, as the wall was actually 130 feet thick! They persevered, and after a 16 hour day, the museum/visitor center had a new access tunnel for underground tours. After their hard work, the crew marked the spot with graffiti in standard orange miners spray paint, reading: Bruce Taylor, Lewis Lavy, Dan Howell, Brett Ward 12-20-04 - "Git R Done". The tour operators include this story in their monologues, and point out the graffiti and the sign explaining the signifigance of that day. The graffiti is preserved, and will be visible for all future visitors.
