In 1911, the Milwaukee, Sparta, & Northwestern Railway built a line connecting Sparta to Wyeville in Central Wisconsin. The line soon was taken over by the Chicago & Northwestern Railway. In order to connect their main line they built this part of the line to include this bridge in 1926. In 1972 a tunnel collapsed in Tunnel City and the line was abandoned. The state of Wisconsin attempted to make this a walking path, but Fort McCoy, where most of this line runs through, refused to convert their part. Today the line is still abandoned as is this overpass.
