EN: The Martin fountain stands on the Martiniplatz in Visp in front of the church. The fountain has two small stone basin, both slightly widen towards the bottom. On a block of stone is a bronze statue of Saint Martin who shares his coat with a poor man. Unlike in most other representations, he is not on a horse, and does neither carry a sword.
I could find neither the artist nor the year of creation. Stylistically, the fountain fits well to the time of the extension of the church in 1950-1955.
DE: Der Martinsbrunnen steht auf dem Martiniplatz in Visp vor der Kirche. Der Brunnen hat zwei kleine Steintröge, sich gegen den Boden leicht verbreitern. Auf einem Steinquader steht eine Bronzestatue des Heiligen Martin, der seinen Mantel mit einem Armen teilt. Anders als auf den meisten anderen Darstellungen ist er aber nicht beritten und trägt auch kein Schwert.
Ich konnte weder den Künstler noch das Entstehungsjahr finden. Stilistisch passt der Brunnen aber gut zur Zeit der Erweiterung der Kirche zwischen 1950 und 1955.
