The Dundee Law is the highest point of Dundee. It lies almost geographically in the centre of the city giving 360 degree views from its summit. The hill was formed as an old plug from a volcano and as long ago as 1500BC was used as an iron age Pictish settlement. The Romans were thought to have used it too as a lookout post. Nowadays, with the city having been built around it, it provides wide rangeing views, not only of the city, but also the surrounding countryside and on a clear day, distant mountains. The exact highest point is adorned by a triangulation pillar, a viewfinder table, and a telecommunications antenna. The Law Road is a drivable tarmac road that corkscrews its way to the summit where there is car parking next to the prominent war memorial that also sits near the summit.
