Pleasant Valley was once a hustling, bustling town, but as is typical when the railroad goes elsewhere, it fell into decline in the early 20th century. Notably, there is a Chiesa Road in Rowlett, not far from here, either named for him or one of his family.
This grave marker is atypical, with a sphere with a "W" perched on top, while the family name, "Chiesa", is on the base. The inscription is:
Jacob
Chiesa
Born
Dec. 22, 1852.
Died
Nov. 25, 1900.
--
He has gone from his dear ones
his children, his wife.
Whom he willingly toiled for,
and loved as his life.
Oh, God! How mysterious and
how strange are Thy ways
To take from us His loved one
in the best of his days.
Was the inscription legible?: Yes
