Winnie was born on 2 February 1904 to William Henry Martin and Bettie Hannah Lee Martin. She was a life-long resident of Pea Ridge and worked there as a store clerk and a librarian.

She first married Winfield Scott Nichols, who preceded her in death. She then married William Harvey Shelton (1906-1991) whose first wife, Violet, had passed away in 1982. He is buried with his first wife at Buttram Chapel Cemetery near Pea Ridge.

Winnie, who had now out-lived two husbands, continued on until 19 June 2006, having lived over 102 years. Oddly enough, she is buried next to her sister in a grave marker with their maiden name of Martin. Between their name squares on the marker is something that looks like a line until you look at it closer. It is the word SISTERS inscribed vertically.
