EN: The House Burgener is located on the north side of the St. Martin's square on the hill in the old town of Visp. The building has a striking three-storey loggia on the left wing and a five-story tower with spire in the middle. The hipped roof is covered with slates.
The house was built in 1697-1699 for future governor Johann Jodok Burgener. The family legend says, the building was commissioned by his wife Anna Cecilia Lambien while Burgener was in French mercenary services abroad, to surprise him on his return.
The tower collapsed during the earthquake of 1855. It was rebuilt only in the renovation in 1985, after the house had come into possession of a foundation a year before. This foundation rents the house to the municipality today. It houses the district and magistrates court.
DE: Das Haus Burgener befindet sich an der Nordseite des St. Martiniplatzes auf der Anhöhe in der Altstadt von Visp. Das Gebäude hat eine auffällige dreistöckige Loggia am linken Flügel und ein fünfstöckigen Turm mit Spitzhelm in der Mitte. Das Krüppelwalmdach ist mit Schieferplatten gedeckt.
Das Haus wurde 1697-1699 für den späteren Landeshauptmann Johann Jodok Burgener erbaut. Die Familienlegende besagt, der Bau sei von seiner Frau Anna Cäcilia Lambien in Auftrag gegeben worden, während Burgener in französischen Söldnerdiensten im Ausland weilte, um ihn bei seiner Rückkehr zu überraschen.
Der Turm stürzte beim Erbeben von 1855 ein. Er wurde erst bei der Renovation 1985 wiederaufgebaut, nachdem das Haus ein Jahr zuvor in den Besitz einer Stiftung gekommen war. Diese Stiftung vermietet das Haus heute an die Gemeinde. Es beherbergt das Bezirks- und Instruktionsgericht.
