This marker is located on the opposite side of Wakefield Tower from Bloody Tower near the Polar Bear.
The marker reads as follows:
"THE WAKEFIELD TOWER
Henry III (1216-72) built the Wakefield Tower on the Riverside between 1220 and 1240. Upstairs was important private chamber with the Chapel. This connected with the rest of Henry's palace, now destroyed. Soldiers in the lower room defended the Kings lodgings and the watergate. Today, it houses a display on torture at the Tower.
Henry, son Edward I (1272-1307) reclaimed land from the River Thames and built the Outer Ward, enclosing it with another curtain wall. From Edward's reign onwards, the Wakefield Tower has been surrounded by dry land. In later centuries it was used for storing state records and was home to the Crown Jewels between 1867 and 1967.
Henry III was crowned in 1216 at the age of 9."
