This monument is located at a very nice Veterans Memorial Park just south of the AA Highway in Maysville, Kentucky. It is very artistic and thought provoking.

The origin of the Battlefield Cross is not definitive, possibly used during the Civil War, but definitely used in WWI and WWII and on to present day, no doubt. Obviously, as one stands before the monument at this park it would be a way to mourn and show respect for a fallen comrade on the battlefield.

BATTLEFIELD CROSS WHEN A SERVICEMAN OR WOMAN IS LOST IN THE BATTLEFIELD, IT HAS BECOME CUSTOMARY TO ARRANGE THEIR BOOTS, RIFLE, AND HELMET IN THE CONFIGURATION YOU SEE BEFORE YOU. THE SURVIVING MEMBERS OF THEIR SQUAD WILL GATHER AROUND THIS 'BATTLEFIELD CROSS' TO MEMORIALIZE THEIR FALLEN COMRADES.

Description of Memorial:
The Battlefield Cross is surrounded by bronze markers, and, behind it, flags representing each branch of the military. The memorial is part of a small park with trees, a cannon, and wallkways.
