The text below is taken from The Evening Telegram newspaper, 29 July 1990, page 8.

Entered into rest on July 27, 1990, Mary (Patten) Smith, widow of the late Capt. Fred Smith. Leaving to mourn: son Eric of St. John's; three daughters: Vera (Mrs. Michael Bordas) of Colorado, Phyllis (Mrs. Dr. Rosston) of Montana and Edna Carey of Bangor, Maine; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave. Visitation 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday. Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, 1990 from St. Thomas' Anglican Church. Interment in the Anglican Cemetery, Forest Road. No flowers by request. Donations to CNIB greatly appreciated.
