This is the old Rexford railway depot, moved to the
Tobacco Valley Historical Village in Eureka. A new branch line of the Great Northern Railroad provided the impetus for founding Rexford in 1903. One of the towns flooded by construction of the
Libby Dam in the late 1960s and early 1970s was Rexford, about ten miles west of Eureka on Highway 37. The town was moved to higher ground and several of the historic buildings in the town were salvaged, some of which, this depot included, now reside at the Tobacco Valley Historical Village. Built in 1903 by the Great Northern Railway, it was likely still in service when
Lake Koocanusa began flooding Rexford in the early 1970s. Prior to that the Army Corps of Engineers had moved the town to higher ground.
