"In 1964, while still with IBM, he became Pastor of the Whittemore Hill Methodist Church, a church bearing the name of his great-great-grandfather, Isaac Whittemore, who donated the land for the church in 1851. Norman had sat in the church as a child growing up. Norman served the church as Pastor for 30 years, retiring to the position of Pastor Emeritus in 1994."
