These coats of arms for the city of Edinburgh are located on the left side of the giant St. Pancras International Railway Station & Hotel along Euston Road, at what was, in the Victorian era, the main entrance to the hotel.
The large portico in the center of the building is the main entrance today, but in 1873 it was the pass-through for horse-drawn cabs to pick up railway passengers. Being filled with horse poo and rough cabbies, no proper Victorian house guest would mix in with all that, so the hotel entrance was set on the far corner away from the rail station.
The reason for the two sets of coats of arms here, of the city of London and Edinburgh, it a nod to the Midland Railway company, which operated the rail line between these two cities.
We appreciate the St Pancras Hotel security officer for telling us that! :)
