Feeding of roots to livestock was introduced in the 19th century, and various machines were invented to cut them up into slices, or to shred or pulp them. By the late 19th century the machines were efficient; driven by steam, or if not available, by horse-gear. This machine is on display outside a farm house in Kingsdown, Kent.
