This cemetery contains the graves of 11,436 fighters first and second mondiales1 wars. Largest British cemetery in France.
Etaples is the seat of an important ally activity during World War II because of its protection against enemy attacks and the existence of rail links with the whole front1. The town became the seat of 16 hospitals and convalescent home and a British training camp. Over 11 500 soldiers buried in the military cemetery at Etaples, over 10 000 of these men died in Etaples or nearby.
Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the military cemetery at Etaples is the largest CWGC cemetery in France.
There are 8817 British, 1145 Canadians, 464 Australians, 261 New Zealanders, 68 South Africans, 17 Indians, three Belgians and 658 Allamands.
This cemetery also contains the graves of the Second World War soldiers, sailors and airmen, including 112 British, 5 Canadians, 1 Australian, 1 New Zealand, 1 Czechoslovak and 1 unidentified completely that died during the 1940 campaign or air operations over France.
