The Wheatsheaf is a large pub situated at the Faversham end of East Street, a short walking distance from local buses and Sittingbourne train station.
It is a traditional high street pub which dates from around 1840, set on a corner at the end of the shopping area. It has a lively local clientele and a welcoming staff.
The sign of The Wheatsheaf has been popular since the 17th century. A sheaf of wheat appears in several coats-of-arms, including those of the Brewers' Company.
A key reason that the sheaf appears on many inn signs is that wheat, like barley, is used in the fermentation to make beer and other alcoholic beverages.
The Wheatsheaf sign is more common in rural areas.
