This short lock assisted vessels as they navigated between Cardiff Bay and the Roath basin to the Cardiff Docks. Today, the lock is unused, as the area has transitioned from a dock area to a tourist area with many kinds of entertainment attractions, monuments, memorials, and shops to visit.
The lock is located at the pedestrian bridge along Harbour Drive between TARDIS Walk (by the Dr Who Experience) and the Norwegian Church. The Lock Keeper's Cafe occupies one of the two lock houses along this centuries-old piece of harbor infrastructure.
