St. Richard of Droitwich, born 1197 AD, later Bishop of Chichester from 1245 to 1253.

About 1250 AD when the brine supply failed, St. Richard blessed the great Upwich pit near this spot.

To this day Droitwich is known for it's connections to brine and the local Brine Baths are very popular.
