Nancy was born on 24 January 1812 to Noah (1778-1870) and Sarah (1790-1883) Rush in North Carolina. She married
Henry Wade (1807-1870) who was 5 years her senior, and for whom his FindAGrave entry has a lot of information. He served in the US Army, though probably too old to be active in the Civil War, which started when he was over 53 years old. It is sad to note that Henry took his own life, by hanging, when he was 62 years young. Just imagine the heart-rending that poor Nancy went through.
Henry and Nancy had 9 children, of which only 2 outlived Nancy. Her FindAGrave record reports, from obituaries, that she passed away on 10 April 1912 in nearby Newton County, just 3+ months after her 100th birthday celebration.
Note that the grave marker clearly reads 191
3 for her death date, regardless of the available biographical information. I have seen this kind of mistake before:
"Look! Grandma Nancy still only has a wooden marker here."
"Yeah, she deserves something better. Let's get her a regular marker."
"Okay. Let's see, I know she was born during the War of 1812. And I'm pretty sure that she died in 1913."
"Good. Now she'll have a long-lasting marker like the other family members have!"
Oh well.
