The Town:

Hersberg is a municipality in the district of Liestal in the canton of Basel-Land with about 340 inhabitants.

Presumably Hersberg developed from a late Alamanni farm. The village wa first documenteds in 1226. In the Middle Ages the area belonged to the monastery Olsberg, the Counts of Thierstein had the high jurisdiction. As part of the dominion Farnsburg it came to Basel in 1461. But the monastery Olsberg still had claims that were not adjusted until a contract in 1664.

Hersberg is still mainly agricultural today. Although there are some newer residential zones, they are much smaller than in comparable towns along the main roads due to the somewhat remote location of the village.

The Town Hall:

The town hall of Hersberg stands on the western edge of the village on the road to Arisdorf. The two-story building is attached to two other houses, presumably a converted barn. Above the former gate, the house is dated 1824.

Hersberg ist eine Gemeinde im Bezirk Liestal im Kanton Basel-Landschaft mit etwa 340 Einwohnern.

Man vermutet, dass der Hof, aus dem Hersberg entstanden ist, eine späte alemannische Gründung war. Das Dorf wurde 1226 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Im Mittelalter gehörte die Gegend dem Kloster Olsberg, die Gerichtsbarkeit lag bei den Grafen von Thierstein. Als Teil der Herrschaft Farnsburg kam es 1461 an Basel. Das Kloster Olsberg hatte aber noch Ansprüche, die erst im einem Vertrag von 1664 endgültig bereinigt wurden.

Hersberg ist auch heute noch stark landwirtschaftlich geprägt. Es gibt zwar neuere Wohnquartiere, aber sie sind aufgrund der etwas abgelegenen Lage des Dorfes wesentlich kleiner als bei vergleichbaren Ortschaften an den Hauptverkehrswegen.

Das Gemeindehaus:

Das Gemeindehaus von Hersberg steht am westlichen Rand des Dorfes an der Strasse nach Arisdorf. Das zweistöckige Gebäude ist an zwei andere Häuser angebaut und vermutlich eine umgebaute Scheune. Über dem ehemaligen Tor ist das Haus mit 1824 datiert.
