Built in 1910, this Science Hall was the first building located on the campus of East Central State Normal School. This is an imposing building, which measures 236 ft. long and 108 ft. wide. It contains 43 rooms, including an auditorium.
This is a three-story building of yellow pressed brick, with Carthage stone facing on the ground level. The building is T-shaped and sits at the east end of Main Street. Designed by architect, Charles Sudhoelter in the Greek Revival style, the west-facing main entrance is magnificent. A 16-step brick staircase with wide stone block sidewalls, leads up to a projected second floor entrance. The double-door entrance is covered by the third floor porch and balustrade, and a gabled pediment at the roof level. Six unfluted columns with Ionic capitals flank this entrance. To each side of this entrance are two brick pilasters, with Ionic capitals.
The building is symmetrical, and has a total of six bays of ribbon windows (four per bay) on each floor. The entrances on the north and south have similar brick staircases and sidewalls, and window configuration, without the porch features.
