There used to find lots of grouse on the moor and heath around Schoonebeek, particularly in Weiteveen. A good reason to create a bronze statue of the celebrated Drenthe grouse unique species of fowl. The disappearance of the heath is their number reduced. This bronze tail fanning Black Grouse represent a piece of the past, when they were still to be found in the rugged landscape. The grouse in Schoonebeek bends his head down and fanned his tail. The hen watches impassively.
