Three panels along Praed Street near Paddington Station that would otherwise be gritty blank walls are transformed into items of interest for pedestrians with short paragraphs on the area's history and cultural contributions (sorry Sir Alexander for the bad penicillin pun).
The waymarked panel is second in a series of three, and reads as follows:
"Fact No. 2
St. Mary's Hospital, dates from 1845 and is one of the most important hospitals in the world. In 1928 in the laboratory, the bacteriologist Sir Alexander Fleming discovered the powerful antibiotic, penicillin. However, though Fleming was credited with the discovery, it was over a decade before someone else turned penicillin into the miracle drug that has helped save millions of lives."
