Three panels along Praed Street near Paddington Station that would otherwise be gritty blank walls are transformed into items of interest for pedestrians with short paragraphs on the area's history and cultural contributions (sorry Sir Alexander for the bad penicillin pun).
The waymarked panel is third in a series of three, and reads as follows:
"Fact No. 3
Paddington Bear's creator Michael Bond began writing in 1945 whilst stationed with the Army in Cairo. In 1958 he wrote his first book, A Bear Called Paddington. Paddington's adventures have sold over 35 million books, have been published in nearly 20 countries, in over 40 languages. In 1994, Paddington Bear was chosen by English toddlers as the first item to pass through the channel tunnel to their French counterparts."
