When he died in 1892, HRH Albert Victor Christian Edward, Duke of Clarence & Avondale, was third in line for the British throne, behind his father, Albert Edward the Prince of Wales (the future King George V) and his grandmother, the reigning Queen Victoria.
This plaque is behind a wrought-iron fence inset at the entrance to Clarence Memorial Wing of St. Mary's Hospital near Paddington Station. It reads as follows:
