As you walk down busy Praed street to or from Paddington Station, spare a moment to look at the brick gate to St. Mary's Hospital, which was built as a memorial to the men of St Mary's who lost their lives in WWII.
A plaque to the left of the gate reads as follows:
"These gates were erected by a friend of the hospital as a memorial to all St Mary's men who fell in the Second World War 1939-1945"
