Loyalist Township was created in 1998 and Loyalist Township Emergency Services was formed from the amalgamation. The amalgamated fire department consists of four Fire Stations, located in Amherstview, Bath, Amherst Island, and the headquarters station in Odessa. The Amherstview detachment previously housed here is now located at 363 Amherst Drive, Amherstview, Ontario.
The departments cover 340 square kilometers, protecting a population of approximately 15,000.
Four full-time staff - Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, Public Education Training Officer and Emergency Vehicle Technician - and approximately ninety volunteer firefighters respond to fires, rescues, medical and hazardous materials emergencies, and motor vehicle accidents.
The location is now used as a Leisure And Activity Centre where township and surrounding area residents have the option to participate in their favourite recreational programs close to home.
The facility features fitness & wellness programs, preschool and children's programs, special interest workshops and a variety of specialized programs for all ages. Everything from yoga and pilates to dance and fitness classes are on offer. At other times, the program coordinators host events such as teen nights, ping pong tournaments, seniors’ classes and toddler programs.
