DE: Der Stifter des Klosters und der Kirche war Chazelin, ein aus Friaul stammender, kinderloser Graf, der hier im Jauntal reich begütert war. Im 11. Jahrhundert starb der Adelsmann. Seine Besitzungen sprach er der Kirche zu, verfügte aber in seinem Testament, dass über seiner Begräbnisstätte in Eberndorf eine neue Kirche und ein Kloster erbaut werden sollen. In der 1. Hälfte des 12. Jahrhunderts waren Kloster und Kirche fertiggestellt. Die Augustiner Chorherren siedelten sich hier an.
1473 fielen die Türken über den Seeberg in das Jauntal ein. Zweimal verwüsteten und brandschatzten sie auch das Stift und den Ort Eberndorf. Erst Probst Leonhard von Keutschach, späterer Erzbischof von Salzburg, gebot ihnen bei der dritten Belagerung Einhalt. Ortsbewohner und Mönche verteidigten das befestigte Kloster gegen die Türken, die nach drei Wochen Belagerung diesmal erfolglos abziehen mussten.
1603 hob der Papst das Chorherrenkapitel in Eberndorf auf und bewilligte die Übernahme des Klosters durch die Jesuiten.
1751 erhielt das Stift die heutige Gestalt.
1773, in der Zeit der Aufklärung, nahm der Staat das Kloster mit seinen Ländereien in sein Eigentum.
1809 schenkte Kaiser Franz I. das Stift Eberndorf den Benediktinern von St. Paul i. Lav., die seit dieser Zeit die Besitzer dieses mächtigen Baues sind.
