The Point Lonsdale Lighthouse was constructed in 1901-02 and is the second light structure erected at Point Lonsdale, the first lighthouse was erected in 1863 when the former timber leading light at Shortlands Bluff which had been constructed in 1853-54 was relocated to Point Lonsdale.
The concrete tower is surmounted by a Chance Brothers lantern. The original oil lamp light was replaced first with an acetylene light and later an electric light that is 37m above sea level
