In Windsor, within the Ascutney State Park, is the Bare Rock Lookout along the Futures Trail.
To get to Ascutney State Park, from I-93, take the exit for Vermont Route 131/US 5. Travel east on Route 131 to US 5, then turn north and drive on US. Route 5 to a fork in the road with Vermont Route 44A. Bear left on Route 44A and drive north to the entrance on the left. After stopping at the ranger station to pay a small fee, park where the ranger designates, then use the map to the trail head, which is off the campground.
The lookout is about a mile from the trail head, which is at about 550 ft elevation, and about 1200 feet in elevation. You could also approach it from above - travel up the autoroad to the parking lot about halfway up, then walk down the Futures Trail about 1 1/5 miles down.
The lookout is a rock ledge that provides a view downslope of the mountain, and over treed varied terrain.
