"Our responsibilities include: fire suppression, technical rescue, hazardous material response, response to medical emergencies at the Advanced Life Support Level, and response to other public health, safety and welfare conditions that threaten the Oak Island community. We are also active in Fire Prevention and Public Education activities. Our ultimate goal is to protect life and property.
Our response district includes all of the Town`s corporate limits on the Island and onto the mainland, which includes portions of N.C. 211 and Long Beach Road. Oak Island is Brunswick County`s largest barrier island and it is the largest coastal town in North Carolina. Oak Island has a permanent population of approximately 6,700 by the 2010 census. Our tourist population swells to nearly 40,000 during the summer season.
Our Fire Protection Classification is a 5. This rating was assigned after a 2009 "Response Rating Survey" by the North Carolina Department of Insurance. This rating was achieved based on many factors such as water supply, communications, and training. The department is also certified as a Heavy Rescue Provider by NCAR&EMS and also an Advanced Life Support EMS Provider by NCOEMS.
Oak Island's Station 1 is located at 101 East Oak Island Drive. Station 2 is located at 8510 East Oak Island Drive. Station 3 is located at 4151 Vanessa Drive in South Harbour Village."
