MW0586 - USC&GS 'J 507' BM - Siskiyou County, CA - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

I recovered this U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey benchmark from 1954 in good condition. The datasheet description is current for station recovery with the exception that Hill Rd is now a paved road. This mark is also listed on a topography map as 'BM 4045' The NGS coordinates should place you pretty close to this mark.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1954 11.5 MI S FROM MERRILL. 0.2 MILE EAST ALONG STATE HIGHWAY 39 FROM MERRILL HIGH SCHOOL, THENCE 1.8 MILES SOUTH ALONG SOUTH MAIN STREET, THENCE 2.0 MILES EAST ALONG STATE LINE ROAD, THENCE 7.5 MILES SOUTH ALONG A GRADED ROAD, IN THE TOP OF A 6- BY 4-FOOT OUTCROP PROJECTING 0.3 FOOT ABOVE THE GROUND, 205 FEET SOUTHWEST OF POWER AND TELEPHONE POLE A 428, 133 1/2 FEET NORTH OF A LONE LARGE SURFACE BOULDER, 58 1/2 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER LINE OF THE ROAD, AND ABOUT 4 FEET HIGHER THAN THE ROAD.
