Mount Philo rises 800' above the neighboring Champlain Valley. Not much for elevation, but several features make it a worthwhile visit. The summit, at 968' above sea level, is accessible via several hiking trails, or by a narrow auto road. At the peak there is a campground with tent sites and lean-to shelters, a lodge for up to 60 people available for functions, and multiple overlooks with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The overlooks are all easily available with short walks from the summit parking lot, and include a sign describing the forest/deforest cycle of the mountain, an informative migratory birdwatching sign, and an orientation table which diagrams the features visible at the main westerly overlook. And, the auto road has been the site of several automobile hillclimb rally events.

$8.00 per vehicle.
Background:
The access road was originally used for surrey tours by the guests of the Mount Philo Inn, from the Inn at the base of the mountain, to an observation tower at the peak. The land was donated to the state by the owner of the inn in 1924.
