Mount Philo State Park is Vermont's oldest state park, circa 1924. A paved auto road climbs the mountain, to the peak at elevation 968' above sea level. At the summit there is parking, there are tent sites and leantos for overnight camping, and there are several overlooks with beautiful views of Lake Champlain, the Champlain Valley, and the Adirondack Mountains. There is also a nice area dedicated to birdwatching, with informative signage describing the area over the valley as a major migratory pathway for birds. Kestrels, merlins, hawks, geese, songbirds, gulls and eagles all pass through here during migrations. A bench and picnic table are located at this spot, only about an easy 50 foot walk from the parking lot.
