Depicted marble tablet, located on the southern facade of the Milešovka Meteorological Observatory on the summit of Milešovka Mt., bears among others also info about the altitude of the summit - 835 meters above the sea level. The tablet was installed in the fifties of the last century, nowadays thanks to more precise measurements we know that the summit' elevation is 836.6 meters.
The Milešovka Meteorological Observatory was constructed in 1903-1905 and it is also continuosly operated from that year. At the present, special physical and chemical measurements are performed there in addition to the routine ones because the air quality in the region of the Milešovka Mt. is strongly influenced by industry (brown coal pits, coal power stations, heating plants, chemical factories etc.). The observatory is managed by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
The isolated phonolite cone of the Milešovka Mt. dominates its vicinity as it is by 400 m higher than the surrounding terrain of the Central Bohemian Uplands (Ceské Stredohorí) in North Bohemia region of the Czech Republic. The mountain was formed by the volcanicity in the Tertiary era. The slopes of the Milešovka Mt. are slanted up to 30° being nearly completely covered by dense deciduos forest (birches, limes, oaks, maples, and beeches).
