Coat of arms of the former municipality Westerbork , a design by G.A . Bontekoe.

The first quarter is a reminder of the share of the chapel in Westerbork had to pay annually to the "white falcon lease" at the Grote of St. Clement Church in Steenwijk. The medal is a reminder of the fact that they were paid from 1369 in silver, without providing a hunting falcon. The next two quarters are derived from a legend recorded by the three podagristen in Westerbork. A legend speaks of a farmhand courting which stepped on a viper, and then was threatened by a viper army. told another story about a hunter who was in the field on a day when it seemed that all the hares were gone. Out of boredom, he shot a molehill. Which turned out to be in reality a tangle of vipers. The Vipers went straight into the attack and chased the hunter. The castle in the last quarter is a reminder of a legend. In Elp had attended a castle where one farmer Cuckoo. He was obsessed with the idea that the Ems with the Zuiderzee had to be connected and already began to dig in Elp. During the application process of the weapon was the desire to depict this channel as a blue line under the castle. The Supreme Council of Nobility rejected that design off because they were too busy. The horses are a reminder of the St. Steffen ride on Boxing Day. In 1998 the municipality was dissolved and added to the new municipality Midfield. There are no elements of Westerbork were taken in the arms of midfield.
