The Flower Mound Heritage Walk is located in the Robertson's Creek Shopping Center, and can be found behind the Starbucks. Today, Waketon is part of Flower Mound, and besides the old house, Waketon Road is just south of here. The Brumley Place was southeast of here. Mr. Robertson is shown in an inset, and the sign says:

"Doc Frederic Robertson

Doc Frederic Robertson was born in 1850 and arrived in Waketon from Alabama when he was 41 years old. He and his wife Emma settled on the Brumley Place south of Kirkpatrick Road, east of Morriss Road. Doc and Emma reared thirteen children, two of them were Oscar and Willie Robertson.

On this land was an orchard of peach, plum, apple and pear trees. In addition to raising corn and cotton, Doc also grew 50-pound "Tom Watson" watermelons. These were a favorite of fellow farmers, and being so delicious, would demand a premium price of a dollar each of the Pearl Street Market in Dallas.

When Doc's sons Oscar and Willie were grown, he rented them land on which to live, work and farm. Doc's grandson, Lester Robertson, worked alongside his father and described Doc as one who expected nothing but hard work. Lester recalls his grandfather one summer employing an unusually tedious remedy for ridding an area of red ants. He stamped the mound with a croquet mallet for hours until the ants were dead."
