This sign is accompanied by a bust of Winston and the Hope Diamond and reads:
"HARRY WINSTON
CONNOSSEUR OF DIAMONDS
(1896-1978)
World renowned jeweler Harry Winston's desire to educate
the public about precious gems led him to donate on of the
world's most recognized gemstones - the Hope Diamond- to
the Smithsonian Institution. This fabulous gift, made in 1958,
became the cornerstone of the National Gem Collection.
Known as the King of Diamonds, Winston was acclaimed for
his skillful cutting of many of the world's large and famous
stones. In addition to the Hope Diamond, he donated other
treasures to the National Gem Collection including the
858-carot Gachala Emerald and a 253.7-carat rough diamond.
Talk to me Harry Winston, tell me all about it.
