Located at the beginning of Discovery Trail within the Tulelake National Wildlife Refuge is a metal plaque monumented on a boulder that reads:

DAVE MENKE ENVIRONMENTAL
EDUCATION CENTER

DEDICATED IN MEMORY
OF
DAVE MENKE
US FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE
1991 - 2011

"WE LEARN TO FLY NOT BY BECOMING FEARLESS,
BUT BY THE DAILY PRACTICE OF COURAGE."
1SAM KEEN-

PLAQUE DONATED BY
KLAMATH BASIN AUTOBON SOCIETY

I actually had the pleasure of knowing Dave Menke and worked with him many years ago on a wildlife refuge booklet that I designed as a graphic artist. He was a top notch professional guy and I know many people in the Klamath Basin miss him after his untimely death.
