This small plaque is located very near the 1914-1918 London and Northwestern Railway Roll of Honour and the 1939-1945 memorial to the men of the Southern Railway (successor to the LNWR) who perished in WWII at the York Road entry to Waterloo Station.
It was erected by Railtrack Southwest on 6 June 1994 to commemorate the men of the Southern Railway who died in the D Day invasion of 6 Jun 1944 that gave the Allies a foothold in France, and led to the defeat of Nazi Germany a year later.
The plaque reads as follows:
